To The Toppermost of the Poppermost!

We hope you enjoyed your July 4th with family and friends!  We played for Mark Barrett’s 60th birthday on the 4th and after our set, we were entertained by Buddy Flett and Tim Brogan.  Then Paula joined LaTosha Thomas of Legato Stone on “Chain of Fools” with Buddy and Tim backing them up. A little later Paula sang “Love Me Like a Man”, stretching her blues muscles a bit.  Great music, wonderful hosts and a delightful time was had by all.

Back in May, we dressed in “period” costume for the George T. Bishop Building Open house for the DDA.
We had quite a big event on May 13, Dan and Amelia eloped to Hot Springs!  Newlyweds!  Such joy throughout the band!
We played “Concert in the Park” in Southern Hills on May 18.  Then we had a great set at Mudbug Madness on May 24.  Thanks to all of you who came out to hear us!  Gigs at El Potrillo, Ernest’s (every Wed, 5-7pm), Bistro Byronz,  Nicky’s, Elks’ Lodge, the Randle T. Moore Center (for Highland Restoration Association), Jethro’s and Cajun Tex kept us busy thru mid July.
And speaking of weddings (Dan and Amelia’s!), on June 15th, we played a wedding reception at the Historic Railroad Depot in Ruston, LA.  We normally travel together, but this trip, I wanted to go early to visit family, so I took my car.  Dan and Amelia were in a minor wreck (not their fault), but a blown out sidewall had us loading everything into my car to take to the reception site. We left Amelia to finish the police report.  We unloaded my car at the venue and then not long after unloading, Amelia showed up in the patrol car.  A really nice gesture on the part of the Ruston Police Department and we are grateful for their assistance. We finished the reception and went to change the tire to bring Amelia’s damaged vehicle back to the venue to load out.  That’s when we found the spare was flat.  In Ruston.  On a Saturday afternoon at 5:30.  With a little help from some folks at the Jiffy Lube, we were on our way back to the venue to load out.  Congratulations to Erin Eaton and Brian Langford on a beautiful reception in Ruston!  And congratulations to us for making it to the gig on time and home safely.
We loved returning to Enoch’s exactly one year from our first date there, June 22.  It’s always great to see Doyle and Yvette Jeter, as well as friends Liz & Henry Bateman,  Dr. Terry Tugwell and a nice crowd of Monrovians.  lol
The following day, we played 2 gigs in Ridgeland, MS (north of Jackson):  Pelican Cove on the Ross Barnett Reservoir, and Kathryn’s Steak House, thanks to our dear friend Sid Grosshart.  Pelican Cove was such a great location on the water, and a really receptive crowd.  Our wonderful friends/fans Gail and Lloyd Spaw saw us in Monroe, then came to both gigs in Ridgeland.  We appreciate their support so much!

On Sunday, July 7th, we played at 4pm in a benefit for Russell Wingfield at Riverview Hall.  There was so much great talent there: Red Thread, Bucket List, Chris McCaa, Jazziana, Airheart, Anxious and The Pack.

We went to Austin to play Botticelli’s on South Congress on July 11th from 5-7pm.  It was standing room, only! We were excited to be playing in the live music capital of the world!

Next we returned to Marshall, Texas the following Saturday night (7/13/13) at OS2and enjoyed a packed house!  We love Marshall!!
We’ll be back at Jethro’s for 4 more Thursdays, starting July 18th, so mark your calendars!!
Announcing two new venues for Airheart in August!  Portico’s (8/3/13, 9pm to midnight) and Sundown (8/17/13 9pm to midnight) both are in Ruston, LA.
Yep, we’ve been traveling and are hoping to do more of it this year.  Stay tuned!
